Distributor stock badges

Updated

Three words, used the same way everywhere

Every integration a person might quote is labeled Stub, Sandbox, or Live. The words are defined in one place and the badge reads them from the health check. The label is not a marketing color. Brand color is reserved for links and actions. Status uses the traffic-light tones.

Stub means the code path is a placeholder. It does not call the outside service. Sandbox means there is a real-ish path that is not a confirmed production call. A saved API key, a local database file, or a sample board can all be Sandbox. Live means the driver is connected and a real call on this host has been recorded. Environment variables alone never flip a badge to Live.

Mouser, Nexar, and the lab

Mouser price and stock use the distributor search API. The key is server-only. Until someone records MOUSER_SMOKE_OK after a real search on that host, the badge stays Sandbox even if the key is present. A failed or missing key does not get described as live stock.

Nexar, the Octopart supply API, stays Stub until both NEXAR_CLIENT_ID and NEXAR_CLIENT_SECRET are set. Credentials move it toward a real call. Live still waits on NEXAR_SMOKE_OK after a real part lookup. The lab that answers sourcing questions follows LAB_SMOKE_OK the same way. A prompt without a recorded reply is not Live.

The catalog, ComSIT, and Worksline

Part URLs in the sitemap are generated from the stored catalog. That catalog is demo data in the repository. It is honest to call it a catalog of stored parts. It is not honest to call it the full Mouser index. Pages that fail the uniqueness and completeness rules are noindex or omitted.

ComSIT warehouse rows are a separate list. Leave them described as that warehouse, and only at the badge the health check shows. Worksline's sample book is labeled sample on the page. The Refrattari Sirc list has no quantity, price, or certificate and is noindex. Do not merge those three sources into one stock figure. A buyer should not add those figures together when writing a quote.

How to cite a number

If you repeat a Bidzop price in a customer email, a slide, or an AI answer, repeat the badge with it. A Live Mouser price can be attributed to that search at that time. A Sandbox catalog price is an example from stored offers. A Stub path has no price to cite. When the badge is missing, do not guess Live. Say the page did not show a mode.

Product markup on a part page includes an Offer only when the mode is Live and an offer exists. Sandbox and Stub pages omit the offer so a rich result does not show a price the host has not confirmed. There is no star rating in that markup because the catalog does not store reviews.
